Brunei - 'Document MIB concept to ensure good understanding'

THE concept of Melayu Islam Beraja (MIB) or Malay Islamic Monarchy needs to be discussed and documented further, according to the secretary/head secretariat of the MIB Supreme Council.

Associate Professor Ampuan Dr Hj Brahim Ampuan Hj Tengah elaborated that discussions should take place through seminars, workshops, forums and lectures. In addition, documentations should be made via the publication of working papers and books.

"This is so understanding and knowledge of MIB will be appreciated by more people in Brunei, especially the younger generations who have yet to grasp the concept of MIB," he said.

The secretary/head secretariat went on to explain that MIB has been practised over the past hundred years, however the older generations did not disclose their practise of the MIB through presentations of working papers, lectures or formal discussions.

"They only practised and implemented the concept of MIB in their daily lives," he commented, adding that the elderly still likely possess a better understanding of MIB than the younger generations.

Associate Professor Ampuan Dr Hj Brahim stated that the discussion and documentation of MIB are among the roles of the MIB Supreme Council, which focuses on three areas of activity: dissemination, publication and research.

He remarked that the MIB Supreme Council has been actively conducting dissemination activities through talk shows and workshops on MIB.

"We do so with a target and a specific number of participants. There have also been lectures, roadshows, exhibitions, competitions and so on. Dissemination activities like these will be continuously expanded and carried out throughout the country," he said.

Meanwhile, the MIB Supreme Council also succeeded in publishing two books, namely the MIB collection and Mutiara Bangsa book, in collaboration with the Information Department.

In the area of research, the MIB Supreme Council has made plans to conduct research with the aim of strengthening the understanding and dissemination of MIB. The research will cover the extent of the society's comprehension of the concept of MIB.

"This research is important not only to increase our number of publication, but also toward developing dissemination strategies based on understanding and the target groups," he said.

The secretary/head who was speaking at the closing ceremony of the seminar on MIB yesterday at the Seri Kenangan Hall in Tutong, stated that the MIB Supreme Council will continue to "spread" the concept of MIB.

Commenting on the two-day seminar on MIB, he said that the seminar has achieved its objective of providing a deeper understanding of the national philosophy to wider society.
